life is strange
So I got home and checked the answering machine, had a couple of messages, and before listening to them, I scrolled through the caller-ID box display to see if I could tell who had called. And one of the callers was "Sun Microsystems". So I immediately wonder, is this someone I know, or is it a recruiter, cause if the latter wouldn't that be ironic?
Lo and behold, the answer is "all of the above".
In fact, it's The Guy. You know, the one I had the amazingly intense and persistent crush on, who was always so friendly but somehow just never followed through on any social plans, and who I tried to contact several times after leaving Sun (well, 3 times, but who's counting except me?) before giving it up as a loss since he never responded in any way.
And he's calling to see if I might be interested in some work that his group is planning.
He did also apologize for not having been in touch (in a tone somewhere between perfunctory and defensive).
And as it happens, the sound of his voice still makes my heart beat fast.
