But where are you staying when you head out to my favorite town? (it isn't completely off topic, as I think of that place as the happy land of escape from reality - which it sounds like you need to do for a bit right now - so sorry to hear the news about PS [and particularly about the company getting eaten up by Larry - he's a bitch, seriously]*anyway* enough of this paranthetical) If you'd like I could give you a list of places that I think are good to go to. And I hope things get better.
I impulse-bought the trip to cheer myself up when I was starting to get generic holiday blues, and now I'm kicking myself for spending the $$$, and kinda sorry that I'm going to miss hanging out @ Ben & Wanda's. Basically just feeling cursed, all my decisions are bad...
*forces self to stop wallowing*
I'm going, so I damn well am going to have a good time.
Anyway, I am staying at some moderately posh (as opposed to mega-posh) place on the strip, Treasure Island? Not getting a car. Bought tickets to see Blue Man Group on xmas eve and one of the Cirque du Soleil shows on xmas night, other than that just figuring I should wander around and see the Star Trek thing and faux Egypt and faux Paris and dancing fountains and whatever... and play slots for a couple of hours :) I'm only there from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, so I'm sure I won't see everything worth seeing.
But in any case, recommendations will be much appreciated. And yes, it's not really so off topic, it's all about JA enjoying life instead of accentuating the negative. As I usually like to say, it's better than sitting home and waiting for death. Or in this case, sitting home and waiting for unemployment, which is not so dire anyway, right? Right?
Right - better to accentuate the positive by getting sauced in the middle of the desert
Okay - I've given up trying to organize my thoughts into any kind of logical pattern. Keeping in mind that it is all good herewith several lumps of information regarding Las Vegas:
Lump One: Treasure Island is still a nice place to stay (even though its been de-pirated, which is totally stupid). It also puts you at one end of the strip - so that as soon as you leave TI you can just wander down the giant roadway of madness until you get pooped out and then take a cab back.
Naturally you should just wander around at will and take it all in, deciding what you think is cool and so forth. Having said that - here are some spots that I think are fun that you might enjoy, too.
Lump Two: The Mandalay is one of my favorite places to hang out in - mostly because its got that weird tropical paradise in the middle of the desert thing going on. The whole property is pretty cool to look at, but my favorite place there is downstairs - look for the little Balinese frogs playing instruments and you'll know you're there. If you wander away from the chaos and towards the part that looks like little huts over a river (no really) you'll find a swell spot to eddy out of the excitement and relax. Also the Mandalay has the House of Blues (bar, restaurant and gift shop) which serves up a mighty good breakfast (cheese grits! biscuits! good stuff!). Red Square (look for the headless Lenin), which has excellent vodka and a great appetizer called Siberian Nachos (not to mention Lenin's head in the freezer and a bar made out of ice).
The Bellagio - worth a visit for the guest check in area alone, on account of the ceiling covered in hand blown glass flowers - its like the first scene at Wonka's in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (I think the artist's name is Chilhuly - I just can't spell it). Also has a massive garden area with creepy Rose Parade like sculptures. O - and the fountain, which is definitely worth seeing.
Paris - It’s the Eiffel Tower, smashed into a building so its like come out of the cloud painted ceiling and plant in the carpet. I mean, c'mon. I like the Napoleon Bar here.
Caesar's - big cheesy shopping mall made to look like ancient Rome (no really) - high points for the audio animatronic statuary that comes to life and warps Greek mythology into a pretzel in order to advertise a ride they no longer have (yay! plus things on fire!). Also - there's a great bar at Caesar's with sea horses and big statues of mermaids with perfect breasts.
Have a wonderful and relaxing time! (oo - are you going to see O or Mystere?)

And this time it's Mystere, I thought I should start with the basics, work up to the water show next time :)
