I was sitting on the couch reading I was surprised by the jolt, and I have to say, it's the first one I've ever really felt. It sent a little thrill of fear through me, I have to admit.
Yeah, it was a bit scary. It was strong enough (close enough) that I jumped up thinking I should move to a safer spot, but before I could figure out what spot looked safe, it was over!
I did and it scared the bejeezus out of me! I was standing in the middle of my living room and it nearly knocked me down. The whole house shook and rattled and yet the cat was unfazed.
Right, you were presumably closer to the epicenter than I was. I was sitting at the table, and felt/heard one big jolt, then a second, at which point I jumped up thinking I should move away from the shelves in case stuff started falling -- but then it was over before I formed a coherent idea of where I should go.

The cats did not seem overly concerned.
