As you probably know (since I've been whining about it interminably), I wrenched my ankle last Sunday while hiking. I cut short my hike, put ice on it that day and the next, and went to the chiropractor on Wednesday, all of which helped, but... I am still having a fair amount of discomfort, in both the ankle and in my knees, especially the opposite knee.

Which is probably not surprising or even necessarily alarming, but it is frustrating. And here is it the weekend, and I would like to go for a hike -- but I'm trying to decide what is the smart thing to do. Should I go, but make it a shorter, less hilly hike than I have been? Just walk around Lake Merritt a couple of times instead? Stay home and ice the ankle again instead?

I have not in fact been resting completely, I've done the stationary bike several times and did go to the gym on Thursday, although I limited myself to 20 minutes on the elliptical machine and skipped most of the leg weights. Which may or may not have been the right tactic, but felt a whole lot better than doing nothing. At least in the short term.

Argh. I just really do not cope well with being injured.

Must be cautious with the ankle. You will have no fun in Peru with crutches. Can you swim instead? I'm trying to think of non-ankle-intensive ways to get fit... Rowing machine? Kind of ankle-y.
