weekend / hiking report

Pretty good weekend, overall:
Friday evening, I went to the gym and then went home and continued reading Midnight Lamp -- mildly distracted by noise from the party in the courtyard, but savoring my privacy and down time (in the way you appreciate something only when it has almost been taken away).
Had a pleasantly lazy Saturday AM, then a late lunch with Linda, then zoomed around getting errands and chores done. Considered going out to a movie in the early evening, instead stayed home and watched a DVD with the kitties. Considered going to NWC, did not muster sufficient motivation -- I do sincerely hate going to bars/clubs alone, I'll push myself to go if I'm absolutely sure there will be a crew for me to glom onto, but otherwise, it just doesn't sound like fun.
Sunday AM, finished the chores in a leisurely manner. Sunday afternoon, went hiking with Julie H (the aforementioned non-houseguest) at Redwood Regional Park: 9 miles, 4-1/2 hours (including 2 breaks), elevation change at least 600 down/up times 2 (probably more on the first down/up).
This was followed by dinner at a Thai restaurant in Berkeley -- because, I realize, I know (at least a few) restaurants in Berkeley and SF but hardly any in Oakland. Clearly I do not get out enough, certainly not in my own neighborhood.
The time with Julie was better than last week's, because I was not feeling imposed on, and we were doing something that I actually wanted to do, so it was easier to be relaxed and casual and not worry so much about conversational minefields. But there were still awkward moments, and by the end of the evening I was very glad to say goodnight and be done with it.
The hike itself was very satisfying. Used the trekking poles, and did put on the ankle brace for the last couple of miles. Nevertheless, being able to do a fairly strenuous 9 miles makes me feel like I'm back on track, although the number of weeks remaining grows short: 5 weekends left!
Now I want to plan out those weekends... I have reservations at Sequoia / Kings Canyon for the weekend of the 27th, also want to fit in another Mt Diablo hike (maybe the 14 mile loop to the summit!), and also Mt Tam, and maybe Big Basin... Hmm. Maybe fitting all that in will be a bit difficult... *pondering*
