miscellany & blather
Dec. 17th, 2005 09:54 amSaturday AM: Hammering at the construction site next door started at 8:10. My upstairs neighbors turned their stereo on at 8:30. What are they thinking, two wrongs make a right?
In other non-news, I got this weird letter from my dentist's office.
This is the dentist that I decided to never go back to, based on the multi-faceted incompetence of the office staff and the dentist's apparent complete inability to listen. The last time I was there, I had paid 900 and some dollars for several hours of torture. Then last month I got a bill for another 300 and some -- because their incompetence apparently also extends to estimating what insurance will cover. So I tossed it aside in a huff and waited until last weekend when I got the next bill, which was 5 dollars higher because of course they're charging me interest. So at that point it was obvious that I'm only hurting myself by delaying, so I went ahead and paid the damn thing*.
A couple of days ago, there was a message from the dentist's office on my answering machine, asking me to call but giving no details. I figured they hadn't gotten the payment and were calling to nag, so I just ignored it.
Then yesterday, I get this letter. It says, and I quote: "Your payment stub has been shredded and your account balance is now zero." And there's a charge slip attached that says 95 dollars.
So for a moment I look at the word "shredded" and I think they've decided not to charge me the 300 extra dollars after all, happy holidays! and then I think, no, somehow they decided to only charge me 95 instead of 300 -- kind of random, but still jolly.
Then this AM I look closely at the charge strip and see that it says debit instead of credit and the last 4 digits of the card number don't match my card. So I conclude that they have yet another area of incompetence! They've attached the wrong slip to my statement, and the reference to shredding my payment stub may not mean anything at all.
I sure don't feel like calling them to ask, so I guess I'll find out when my credit card bill comes.
*...paid out of the bonus I got last month, which is handy, but still stings because there are a lot of other things I could happily spend that money on. Without the bonus, I couldn't be quite so cavalier about where or whether an extra 300 or 95 or zero dollars was going to show up on my credit card bill...
