OK, I know this is totally stupid. I mean, I know. Really.

Nevertheless: I haven't heard back from L, and now I'm wondering if my email got through. I mean, it could have ended up in a spam folder. So I am just itching to ping him again, just to say "let me know if this reaches you", which I probably should have done before sending a long complicated message which might be construed to require time and attention to reply...

Thus far he does not seem to mind my burbling enthusiasm, but I just don't want to take it too far. I'm thinking I need to wait at least another 24 hours, then I could reasonably ask "did my other message reach you?".

As anyone who knows me probably already knows: Patience is not my strong suit.

4 days? That sounds very hard sensible.

It's only been a day, that's why I know (really) that it's too soon. Thus far his responses have usually taken a couple of days.

three or four days, at least. really. 72 hours, bare minimum. and if no response, drop it like the proverbial hot potato. and if he writes back, *at least* 24 hours and probably 48 before responding.

OK, the initial 72 hour wait, I buy.

But I am just not wired for playing games around pretending to be disinterested. Just can't do it. Either he appreciates eagerness, or he doesn't like me.

(So far, his responses indicate that my attitude is pleasing to him -- by which I mean to say, he is greeting my enthusiasm with enthusiasm. The only problem is me craving instant gratification, which is just not what you get from email correspondence...)

p.s. I don't mean to sound ungrateful for the council. I have no doubt you are much more skilled at this than I, and if I were wise I would follow your advice to the letter :)

I second the 72 hours advice. Not sure what I think about how long to take to respond. I vote that you take at least as long as he did, but not much more. I understand though -- that sucks to wait.

I definitely don't want to nag him about responding (I just wish I knew for sure he had gotten my message, and that we were through the email technical -difficulties part of it).

His messages to me thus far have been enthusiastic enough that I really do think that he likes me, and I will hear from him soon. (Either that, or he's one heck of a talented faker, but why would he bother?)

I guess my reasoning is this: if I get another message from him that seems enthusiastic, there is no reason to artificially disguise my own enthusiasm. If I get something lukewarm, then I should tread carefully. If I never hear from him again, I will be utterly baffled, but c'est la guerre.

Yeah -- while in theory I like Zabet's "make him wait he is not worthy" strategy, I am far to impatient to pull it off. So, like you, I'd be wondering what on earth happened if I didn't hear back from him right away. On the other hand, it does seem like he doesn't write back right away, generally, right? So probably worth cooling your heels and trying to keep from checking your email more than every five minutes. ;)
