On the theory that some large portion of my current residual unwellness is related to allergies, I decided maybe I would try to take some Claritin, which various people at various times have told me works pretty well. Then I rummaged around unsuccessfuly in my bathroom, looking for the Claritin that I could have sworn I bought a while back and then never got around to trying.
This came up somehow in the conversation with the T46 guy, who promptly dug out his box of Claritin-D and handed me one, emphasizing that this was Claritin-D which is better than just Claritin.
I put it in my pocket, and then got home and looked it up on the internet, which told me that Claritin-D is loratadine (the Claritin part, which I've never tried) plus pseudoephedrine (the -D for decongestant part, AKA Sudafed, which I know and loathe the side-effects of). And since the primary listed side-effect of the combination was insomnia, I decided *not* to take it at bedtime.
But I did take it this AM. I am not noticing any dramatic effect on my nasal symptoms, although they may be a tinge better -- nor am I noticing the bad side-effects that I usually experience with Sudafed -- but I feel like I've had 10 cups of coffee, I am totally stoned in an upper kind of way. Not my usual favorite kind of high, but it's not unpleasant :)
I wonder how long it will take to wear off? Will I sleep tonight? Will I crash and burn in a few hours?
I guess I should plan to buy some non-D Claritin and see how that works :)
