the very definition of wanker

I got a message from the property manager: So now he's got a tenant lined up who wants a later move-in date, he says I can have the one-month extension, and he even claims he was hoping they would take the place *because* I wanted the extension. What a wanker.
I suppose there are people who would wait until after July 8th to make arrangements to move by the end of July, but I really can't imagine doing that myself. It's so not my style, that I can't even imagine how someone who knows me even slightly would be able to imagine it.
So here's the thing: I've already made a non-refundable deposit on the temp housing, and rented the storage room, which together are about $1000. If I knew that one month would be enough, or even had specific leads that looked promising, maybe it would be worth throwing away $1000 to avoid moving twice. But I could so easily end up in the same boat in 4 weeks time...
I don't see how I could have done any different, and I don't quite see it making sense to change course now.
Nevertheless, it just makes me feel like I've gone wrong in life.
