Woke up well before the alarm went off (AKA around 5:30 AM) emerging out of vaguely uneasy dreams into a state of low-key but distinct anxiety. Condo / contractor stuff: scheduling, choosing the right people for each job, how much money I'm spending.
Ai yai.
Blathery details:
- Belatedly realized that the flooring bid does not mention the underlay, therefore it is probably not included in the price. Must call them today.
- The tile contractor finally called me back yesterday (after having promised to have the bid by last Thursday) and bid high. So I will probably just hire Omega (the pest inspection company), since I want them to do the plumbing repair anyway, and it will be one less moving part.
- Meanwhile, the Alexi handyman does tile work, and sent me some pictures of work he's done (a nice touch, that). So I could get a bid from him on the bathroom work, if I want one more bid. Or just ask him for a bid on the kitchen work -- and then decide who else to call, since I really ought to get at least two bids on something that big.
- Must find tile showrooms, preferably in the East Bay, and with actually helpful staff (as opposed to the one place I stopped where everyone was too busy to even notice me walk in, much less offer to help).
- Kitchen tile is worrying me more than bathroom tile -- the bathrooms can be bland, as long as they are functional. For the kitchen, if I'm going to bother, I'd like to pick something I'll really love.
- The aforementioned Alexi is going to take out that cabinet in the kitchen today. I didn't get any other estimate on that, probably should have.
- Kris gave me the name of their handyman, but I haven't called him yet. I am not sure whether I want to, although if I had had his name first I certainly would have. But now I'm thinking I will just stick with Alexi as long as he seems to be doing good work.
- Speaking of Kris, she has way too many ideas. I need no more ideas!
- Since the flooring work is scheduled to start on the 7th, I would dearly love to get all this other stuff done by then. This is probably a wild dream.
Too many moving parts.
Must also schedule movers, planning on 14 Sept. This seems simultaneously interminably long (I want to move in!) and way too fast to do all this *stuff*.
And then there's the day job.
*sigh*
Well, at least things are starting. And will end.
