Just back from 2 nights with no computer, or cell phone coverage for that matter. Also no TV or movies. Instead: ocean view, wood-burning fireplace, large bathtub, books, excellent meals, much wine.

On Thursday, I didn't get an early start, what with being too distracted to pack on Wednesday, plus needing to fuss over the kitties before I left. So, I left around 1:30, drove most of the way there (dodging most of the rain), then impulsively stopped at a state park called Hendy Woods, where I went for a short and rather dark stroll under the redwoods. Arrived at the inn just after sunset; settled in and admired the view; and got all dressed up to walk 100 feet down the path and have dinner :) After which I played with fire for the rest of the evening.

Yesterday I slept late, had a huge breakfast, then drove a few miles up the road to Russian Gulch State Park where I hiked something over 7 miles (not counting the walk from the parking area to the trail head, which was probably close to 2 miles round trip). After that, what else could I do but take a bubble bath? And then sit on the porch, admiring the view, sipping a glass of wine, until it was again time to go eat really well. Followed by more pyromania, of course.

I had been planning on driving back via Highway 1, but decided I wasn't really in the mood to drive for 5 hours today, especially since it was drizzly. And it seemed like stretching my legs would be a good thing, since the 7- or 9-mile stint yesterday had left me a little sore. So after another nice lie in, and another huge breakfast, I went to yet another state park, Van Damme -- really, the Mendicino area is just crawling with them! -- for a modest 3 or so miles, on a very level path, in the rain; plus a short stop at the beach to say au revoir to the ocean. And then drove straight home, because by then I really wanted to see my kitties and be in my own space again.

On that note, I think I need to go sit on the sofa. Ash is on my lap here at the computer, but Lena is pacing in the hall, obviously waiting for more attention!
