annoying

For no good reason, yesterday stayed up until after 1:00 AM (really late for me), drank too much wine, woke up at 6:30 AM anyway, lay in bed with the cats for a couple of hours but at 8:00 AM the construction crew next door started up, which pretty much took the fun out of lolling in bed. So now I am sitting here groggy and mildly hungover and listening to a chorus of banging, crashing, truck-reverse-beeping, and jackhammer.

First chore for day: go to the post office and see if they are holding the packages for which I signed the little slips saying "please just leave them". Because if they did leave them, apparently they were stolen.

Major chore for weekend: write my annual xmas letter and do the cards for overseas folks. (Which I really should have done last weekend, esp given that I have moved since last xmas so many of them won't have my correct address.) Boy am I not feeling inspired with holiday cheer right at this instant.

Update 1: Belatedly, it occurs to me that some of this mood may be PMS. But it's all legitimately annoying anyway...

Update 2: The post office did have my packages, which makes me feel much better. Ironically, I guessed wrong about what the packages were. In fact, since the little slips had been filled out incompletely, I wasn't even completely sure it was two different packages.

Turned out to be:
- my stack o' books from Powell's (several Gwyneth Jones novels, although not the one I really need to read, which is the follow-up to Bold as Love; plus I finally bought the final volumn in Colleen McCollough's Roman series, 'cause I am in the middle of re-reading it, and 'sides it was on sale; plus Don Norman's Design of Everyday Things 'cause it's been on my list forever and I needed to buy one more thing to get free postage (damn that's clever marketing :)
- my order of stamps, which it never dawned on me would not fit in my mail box. Stupid, stupid packaging.

The thing I was expecting was yet another boring cartigan from Lands' End. Not in the mix. Wonder where it's gotten to?
