1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two.

2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.

3. Include these instructions, and share the love.

Full disclosure: At this point, I am fully capable of thinking political thoughts when faced with the image of a polar bear butt. However, I trust (perhaps naively) that will not be the initial reaction of the majority of viewers.

p.s. When you get right down to it, almost anything could have SOMETHING to do with politics. But let's just not go there, k?

A couple of my friends have this meme in their LJs:
Copy this sentence into your LiveJournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

Randomly surfing, I found this version on a total stranger's blog:
Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you’re in a heterosexual marriage/relationship (or if you think you might be someday), and you don’t want it “protected” by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

Naturally, I like the latter version, because I don't feel left out. But I suspect it sounds weaker than the former.

"The Big Read thinks the average adult has only read six of the top 100 books they've printed below.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them."

book list )

May I say, what a very odd list of books. I mean, the Bible, Bill Bryson, various hoary classics I should have read in college, famous sf/fantasy, and a few recent best-sellers? This is top 100 of what?

3.) Take the career match maker quiz and list the top 10 responses

1.Website Designer

3.Technical Writer
4.Cartoonist / Comic Illustrator
5.Desktop Publisher
6.Interior Designer
7.Fashion Designer
8.Multimedia Developer
9.Anthropologist
10.Writer

I wonder if this means my next career will be as a cartoonist... or anthropologist? or interior designer *snicker*

Is there really such a job as "desktop publisher"?

At any rate the top 3 seem pretty on target...

(I am not impressed with mine in all regards. I mean, e.g., four cats is too many. But I like the mental images of my various friends doing all that piping and leaping and swimming and milking. I particularly like the mental image of "nine anagumas dancing": Badger badger badger badger badger...)

The first five people to respond to this post, will get some form of art, created by me, about them. I make no guarantees about quality or type, but I will assure that I will give it good effort and that the art will be individual to you, so if you get a mix CD or a haiku or some strange needlework wall hanging, yours is the only one like it.

The only catch, of course: as with most memes, if you sign up, you have to put this in your own journal as well.

See behind the cut for a list of banned books compiled by someone [livejournal.com profile] eac knows, in honor of banned books week. The meme instructions:
Bold the ones you've read. Tell me which one was your favorite. Suggest one to read.

Going through this reminded me of a lot of books I read as a child and hadn't thought of for eons. At age 11ish, I had a real love-hate relationship with Judy Blume -- I read and re-read her books obsessively, despite despising the protagonists, whom I found unbearably sappy.

For my current taste, I'd probably pick Harry Potter as my favorite -- these days I have a sweet tooth for highly refined brain candy. OTOH, anyone who hasn't read any Mary Renault is missing a treat.
