waxing sentimental
Jan. 16th, 2005 12:01 pmIt was a good party, although I bit smaller than I'd hoped -- basically no one who said maybe showed up, and some folks who said yes didn't show up, and only a handful of the majority who didn't RSVP showed up. But c'est la guerre. Quality matters more than quantity, right?
Which attitude I probably should have taken about the wine, since I am not fully functional today. Not suffering badly, but not yet feeling able to operate heavy machinery (e.g., the idea of getting into the car to go to the grocery store seems very daunting). But I digress...
Linda and Nancy continued our tradition of serving as the early shift, which is to say, we planned it so they showed up an hour early, right when I was done with all the setup and had nothing left to do but pace and wait. Perfect!
Then the with-kids portion of the evening went fine -- no bodily injuries or property damage, and all ages seemed to enjoy themselves (with the probable exception of Tom's son who is considerably too old for hide-and-seek and a little too young to really want to talk to a bunch of old fogies -- but he was a very good sport about it).
As expected, the crowd was a real mix. Some of my neighbors showed up, several colleagues from formerly-PSFT, a surprisingly substantial handful from Sun, several of my favorite Simians, a goodly measure of the wonderful folks I privately think of as Reffellites because it's all down to James that I know any of them, and of course the just-returned K&K.
In short, throughout the evening I got to see many of my very favorite people in the universe. As well as some folks I don't know as well, but who show promise to become some of my very favorite people. What more could one ask of a party, really?
Many thanks and extra hugs to all who were there! Love you all!
