crush continued

Exchanged many emails w/ The Guy today, mostly work-related of course, but including a parenthetical exchange something like:

Him: I've got no troubles that a glass of good Merlot wouldn't help.

Me, several emails later: You know that glass of Merlot you were talking about? I need it now.

Him: Forget the glass, let's go for the bottle.

At which point I almost had enough nerve to say "Hey, if you really want to go for a drink sometime, call me". But only almost.

I just keep thinking, what if I say something like that and it turns out that he's attached, or just disinterested. I mean, OK, presumably he'll just tell me so and then I'll know. But I don't really want to do that in the middle of a work day, when I might have to email him again an hour later about something work-related while still in the throes of utterly painful embarrassment... *shudder*


(And now I won't have any chance to talk to him again until Monday, at least... How can my poor heart survive?)
