This AM, some guy has been intermittently climbing up onto the roof that's right next to my window. This is very unnerving. I can see the ladder reflected in my computer monitor, and when he climbs up it I get this visceral sense of someone suddenly looming over my shoulder, even though it's all the way on the other side of the room. He looks like he might be one of the construction workers from next door, which doesn't make any sense, because the roof in question is the other wing of this building.
I want to be clear that I am really not wallowing in grumpiness, just venting occasionally. For instance, on a positive note, I am working at home today, and plan to go walk around the lake at lunchtime (in my new shoes).
Also, still searching for the optimum package for my hypothetical trip to Peru. Factors: cost, length of time, amount of hiking (not too little, not too much), feeling of confidence in the outfitters... There are a couple of options from REI, which is certainly a trusted brand name -- but a little pricey, with lots of stuff like meals not included (not so appealing esp. when travelling alone). There's another outfitter that I came across yesterday that looks pretty good, as long as I feel confident that I will be able to walk 6-9 miles daily in hilly, high-altitude terrain... Having gone for a 6-mile hike on Saturday, that seems so reasonable, yet I am still a little worried. Sometimes me == too risk averse.
