A very full day yesterday:

After the requisite amount of Saturday-AM procrastination, I decided that if I went to the Title Nine sale (per [livejournal.com profile] mzsa), I could also swing by the bank and Trader Joe's in Emeryville, achieving a certain very mild efficiency. This plan worked beautifully: got to see mzsa (whom I always wish I could manage to see more of); bought a handful of cap-sleeve T-shirts that I didn't desperately need but will definately use; and stocked up on essential groceries before actually running out of milk (although after running out of carrots).

Then scooted up to Redwood park for a hike. I had a specific plan about this: last weekend's hike was just over 6 miles and fairly strenuous (lots of up and down), so this week I wanted to go a little further but make it an easier hike. So I sat with the trail map and figured out a loop that would be just over 7 miles, on trails that I knew to be fairly mellow. The only problem with this calculation was that I hadn't actually been on all the parts of these trails, I was just assuming that they would be similar to the parts I knew. Bad, bad assumption (or as one of my British friends likes to say "assumptions will make an ass of you")*. I could of course reckon that since the loop had a downhill part here, there would have to be an uphill part there, but it was exactly how long and how steep that surprised me. I wish I could find a good trail map with elevation changes: I swear the ridge is higher at that end of the park than the other end...

So, I ended up pushing harder than planned, and also taking longer, and therefore running mildly late for my next engagement of the day: dinner with Linda and Nancy. It is always so lovely to see them, and Linda made a fabulous mushroom soup and cornbread, mmm...

Then scurried back to Oakland to hook up with [livejournal.com profile] bulieb and drive into the city for 1984. I was a bit underwhelmed by the quality of the DJs, but it was great to see people, and good to be dancing -- even though the dance floors got rather uncomfortably crowded at a certain point.**

So, now it is Sunday AM and I am drinking coffee and thinking about exercising and washing my hair before brunch. Which, if I get up now and slowly back away from the computer, I should actually have time to do. Then, I am really truly going to try to do some housework this afternoon (minimum: vacuuming, way way overdue) before my late afternoon massage appointment. Life is good :)

* Although of course he would spell it "arse".

** My apologies to those whom I scurried past on my way out the door: by the end of the evening, I so had exceeded my saturation thresholds for crowd and noise that I wasn't even pausing for hugs.
