weekend winding down
May. 1st, 2005 08:11 pmNot a bad weekend, to be sure.
Picked up Jen after work on Friday evening, went to her place for dinner (she made quail, which had been shot by Fredrik, and BTW she cooked one for the cat, too), then met Sacha at Zellerbach for the Cambodian dance performance, which was quite good.
Yesterday I spent a silly amount of time fighting with my computer, but also got a few things done, and spent some quality time with 2 cats on my lap. (The computer, by the way, is functional at the moment, as I have turned off the firewall software. I have not yet done the logical test, which is to turn the firewall back on and confirm that the machine resumes spontaneously rebooting every 2-5 minutes.)
Today I got through most of the rest of my to-do list, which included futzing with the budget and paying some bills, repotting some plants, the usual (dread) vacuuming, and a trip to Target where I found I was in a shopping kind of mood and spent a rather silly amount of money -- I got everything on my shopping list, and most of the rest of what I bought was stuff I'd been planning to get sometime, but wow did it add up.
Then headed up to Tilden / Wildcat Canyon for a hike. I had picked a particular hike out of a book I just bought: it was described as 7 miles, 1000 ft elevation up then down, and "moderate" in difficulty (2 stars on a scale of 4). That seemed reasonable, since I did a little more than 7 miles last week. Also, it seemed wise to start with a 2-star hike from this book, rather than something more strenuous, just to make sure the author's idea of moderate was similar to mine. Which in fact it was, other than the part where I missed a turn-off, and was enjoying the walk enough that I decided to keep going for a while rather than turn back -- with the result that I hiked 10 miles instead of 7.
So now I'm home, doing laundry, footsore (in fact, sore muscles all over), but feeling pretty good all the same.
