aborted hike
Jul. 10th, 2005 03:31 pmI was less than a mile and a half into my planned 10-mile hike, when I stepped down on a loose rock and wrenched my ankle. Not so bad that I can't walk on it, but I did have to stop and turn back.
It wasn't a particularly difficult stretch of trail, and my attention was off to the side. When I came down on the rock, my ankle basically wobbled first to one side then the other -- except that "wobble" is too gentle of a word, it was a fast solid wrench to each side. I continued on to the picnic area at the 1-1/2 mile mark, and sat for a moment, and relaced my boots to snug them up, and paced around for a while -- because I really, really, really wanted to keep going. But it was obviously not a clever thing to do, so eventually I talked myself into doing what any sensible person would have decided on immediately.
I do think it's going to be OK. I mean, the ankle actually feels a lot better already, and I haven't even put ice on it yet (yes, that's next on the agenda, just needed to vent first!)
But this is the first weekend since March that I haven't hiked over 4 miles.
*sigh*
