I went to sleep last night with my brain full of random flashes of imagery out of Sin City, and woke up from a dream that had nothing to do with that, other than being profoundly uncomfortable. Not quite an anxiety dream, just... well, a dream about being out of sorts.

Even when I first woke up, I couldn't really remember a coherent storyline, and by now it's even more fragmentary. But here's what I remember:

First I was in my father's bedroom in the house where I grew up, trying to vacuum up an enormous quantity of spilled beads. At some point, the vacuum got clogged up, and I held the hose up to the light, and was able to see the outline of a cable (nicely tie-wrapped) that had somehow been sucked up into the hose.

Then I was teaching a course, about something that I didn't really know very well. This seemed to be related to my current employer's product. I kept having to refer to notes to know what to say. The classroom space was very odd, there was one set of seats directly in front of the podium where I was speaking, but another set further back, behind a partition, so those people couldn't see me and I had to yell for them to hear me. There was something wrong with the course workbooks, too.

Meanwhile, my ex Jan was there, talking to the students about a caterer she knew, that she wanted to recommend to them. The class was running late getting started, and I asked her to stop talking so the class could start, and she wouldn't shut up. The whole class was talking, and I was yelling and still couldn't get their attention to get started.

At this point, I woke up feeling mildly headachey, and found to my surprise that there were no cats on the bed.
