jaeclectic...seems to have been sunburn (ref ilen, bulieb, angel_boi). Perhaps I would have gotten a nasty burn if I hadn't twisted my ankle first (on the other hand, then I would still have gotten my hike, dammit).
Perhaps the underlying theme is self-inflicted injury? *sigh*
