Went to the dentist this AM, for a checkup but convinced I had a cavity because I've had extreme cold sensitivity (with occasional sharp pain) in one area.
Good news: The dental hygienist says I'm doing a good job. Whee! (Not perfect, of course, but I don't actually get a scolding.) The sore spot, she says, is "some recession" which the dentist may or may not need to do anything about.
Bad news: One of my old fillings has decay around it, and because it was a big filling to start with, they can't just replace it: I need another crown.
Very bad news: There is also decay under my bridge. This will need to be replaced, and again will require another crown.
All of which means many hours in the dentist chair. Which they think should be done in the next few weeks (so it is done before I go to Peru).
And (even with insurance covering more than half), a $950 bill that I wasn't expecting.
(And I didn't even remember to ask the dentist about the thing that's actually been hurting...)
In other news, running off now to yet another last-minute chiropractic appointment. Ankle, knee, knee. Argh!

Date: 2005-07-19 10:05 pm (UTC)I always figured I inherited the bad teeth from my Dad (a dark-haired, olive-skinned man who always got type-cast as Italian or Jewish, despite being (probably) 100% Irish). It would perhaps be moderately consoling to think the bad teeth came in a bundle with a feature that I do appreciate!
Now I want to do a poll of all the red-haired people I know to see how their teeth are...
