jaeclecticI meant to say: remembering to buy gasoline, yay! discovering that premium costs over 3$ at my local gas station, boo!
Also forgot to tell about the two guys I saw at the summit, who were hiking the same route as me. They were maybe 30-ish -- I am bad with judging ages but at least mid-twenties and no more than mid-thirties -- and kind of burly, made me think "high school athlete gone to seed". I had spotted that there was a room in the little museum at the summit which had a movie playing, and thought "hey, a place to sit down in the shade". They came along 5 minutes later and obviously had the same thought -- I said "the movie is just an excuse" and they immediately got the joke. Then they were talking between themselves about the fact that it had taken them 5-1/2 hours to get there and wondering how long it would take to get back. Then the one guy turned to me and asked which hike I was doing, at which point we established we were doing the same loop from Mitchell Canyon. But he didn't ask how long it had taken me to get there. Which is just as well, because it had taken me 4-1/2 hours, so internally I was whooping:
RAAA! I ROCK! I can climb up a mountain faster than than two bigs guys who are at least 10 years younger than I am and who probably only go hiking once a year.
My right knee is still a bit sore today, but no sharp pain. I am wearing my little knee brace (which I normally only wear while I'm hiking), and wore a skirt to work specifically so that I could more easily put an ice pack on it if needed (so far, I'm not bothering, though I will ice it this evening).
