misc update
Sep. 13th, 2005 01:03 pmI almost always post some blather about my weekend activities, but really this weekend was pretty dull: I piled up stuff that needs to be packed for my trip. The power was out for several hours. I did some work-work, but only for about 3 hours. I went to see a quirky movie, which wasn't exactly brilliant but resonated after the fact, unexpectedly. I did nothing social.
And I went for a hike (as usual!), my last before heading off to Peru. I didn't press my luck in terms of distance or difficulty, just did 9-1/2 miles with a reasonable amount of up and down -- 9-1/2 miles happening to be the distance of the longest day in the trek.
Yesterday (Monday), I had an 8:30 AM review meeting, and given how horrific the traffic had been on Friday (due to lane changes on 80 in downtown SF, apparently exacerbated by overnight construction work that ended late) -- well, I considered getting up at oh-dark-hundred hours to catch BART, or just getting up at oh-dark-hundred hours to allow 2 hours for the drive, and eventually decided to get up BEFORE oh-dark-hundred hours and skip my usual AM exercise routine and hope to miss the worst of the traffic and actually do some work before the meeting. In other words, I set my alarm for 5 AM, got up at 5:20, left the house at 6:20, and got to work by 7 AM.
The review meeting (and the other one in the afternoon) went OK, but continued the theme of being more about problems with the requirements, rather than issues with the designs that I can actually DO something about. (One more tomorrow, almost certainly more of the same.)
The upshot of all that is that by 3 in the afternoon I was totally wiped out. But I did push onward, worked until 5:15 or so, and went to the gym -- then went home and cuddled with the kitties and savored doing little and went to bed early!
So today I feel comparatively perky. (Despite having just started bleeding, which BTW I am intensely grateful for, since by the calendar I was expecting it to wait until I was travelling, probably during the camping part! whew!)
Anyway, I am getting stuff done at work, at a pretty good clip -- I may actually run out of things that I can and should tackle before I go (as opposed to all the stuff that needs more information, *sigh*).
So: Today is Tuesday. Tomorrow, Wednesday, is my last day at work before vacation. Thursday is at-home: packing, last chiropractic visit, lunch with my friend Anne (AKA the cat-sitter), last-minute shopping, really finishing the packing... And Friday, off I go!
p.s. In my universe, life is pretty good right now. Some of you, dear friends, seem a little less copacetic. I send you all hugs and hope it gets better soon...
