life is OK, really
Oct. 7th, 2005 06:44 pmI guess I am in the mood to count my blessings. Out of the corner of my eye, I catch sight of a profound personal tragedy in the life of a friend of my friends -- and it reminds me that if the worst I have to deal with is a head cold, and an imperfect (yet reasonably secure and well-paying) job, oh and the odd minor deficiency in my social life, well anyway, maybe I could just stop dwelling on the negatives, 'cause things are not so bad.
Randomly:
I have zero social plans for the weekend, and although I hope that some social activity may materialize without planning, I am also quite looking forward to another weekend laden with sleep. Really looking forward. Sleeeep.
As mentioned previously, next weekend I'll actually be seeing a couple of the people that I met in Peru, which is unexpected and kind of fun. Meanwhile, plans are beginning to form for a reunion of the loco 13 (or at least a large percentage, perhaps 11 or 12 of us) in Los Angeles, the first weekend in December. I may decide to fly, but at the moment I'm toying with the idea of a leisurely drive down the coast, perhaps stopping in Monterey and then San Luis Obispo. I just got an email from Grace offering their guest room, so aside from whatever larger gathering there may be, I'll know I'll get to hang out with Grace and Vernon.
All of this is sort of trivial on one level, but on another: It reinforces that I may actually have made a few lasting connections on the trip, which would please me very much. And also, having any kind of travel to look forward to just automatically cheers me up. A long weekend in LA may not be all that glamorous, but it's concrete and coming up soon and on a small enough scale that I don't have to worry much about whether I'll have enough money or vacation days.
So anyway: I do count my blessings. I am very pleased to be living here, and to know all of you, to be (at the moment, touch wood) financially unstressed, and to have so many good things in my life. Everyone please stay well, and be happy.
