There is a fire in my neighborhood -- a big, big fire -- I think it is across the street, although at first I thought it might actually be the building next door. At a certain point, because the building next door has huge windows just like this one, I could see the flames.
I actually called 911 a few minutes before that, because I saw huge amounts of black smoke and orange light and didn't hear any sirens. But then I saw a fire truck drive up. And now there's another siren every couple of minutes.
I had a momentary impulse to take the cats and flee. This is scary stuff.
Updating already, ten minutes later: With increasing daylight and the once again visible flames, I can clearly see now that this is a building across the street, not the building next door as I first worried. This makes it a little less immediately scary, and therefore I can notice being fascinated in a semi-pyromaniac kind of way. I can see the firefighters walking around on the roof, silhouetted against the huge flames. I just spilled my coffee out of nervousness. Really powerful stuff to see out your window when you're just waking up.
