more on the fire, etc

jaeclecticTurns out the fire was actually a whole block away, at the Sun Hop Fat #1 grocery store -- man, it must have been huge! for me to see the flames from that distance. I still can't quite believe it, even after seeing the rubble. I was utterly convinced it was right on the other side of the building next door, and when I was on the phone with 911, I swear the guy said 5th & 11th. Hum.
It is odd and ironic that various friends of mine heard about the fire on the news, but I didn't. Even driving to work, when I was listening for it, I heard a brief reference during one traffic update but that was it.
In unrelated news: got home this evening around 8:45, there's a game or something at Laney College, and some fucker is parked in the driveway. Not to mention that there are cars in every legal parking space for blocks around. One of my neighbors saw me hovering there wondering whether someone had just double parked and might be right back, please? and let me know that, no such luck, the vehicle had been there an hour, and that he had already called the tow truck. So I just drove around in increasingly large circles until eventually finding a parking spot about 3 blocks away. I am filled with vindictive wrath: I hope they tow that person and fine them an enormous sum and it totally screws up their evening and their plans for the weekend and their holiday budget and well, I guess not the whole rest of their life, I'm not quite that mad, but almost.
You know, I pay for my parking spot in the quasi-garage. So they robbed me. Not to mention aggravating me, and wasting my time. But I suppose I shouldn't sweat the small stuff. I am sure they justified themselves by assuming the garage was a business and no-one would be coming in or out after hours. They just happened to be WRONG!

Otherwise: had a quite long but rather satisfying day at work, got a massage (hence not getting home until 8:45, 9:00 with parking). I am now tired but somehow still a bit mentally hyper, mostly stuff from work buzzing round my brain, but probably also related to starting the day with an adrenaline jolt and ending it with a fit of pique.
