boring weight stuff
Dec. 12th, 2005 08:20 pmThis is going to be the first of a series of posts about boring weight (loss) stuff. I figure I should make a custom list of people who are willing to read about this, so if you have a strong interest or disinterest, please let me know, otherwise I'll just take a wild guess at which of you would really enjoy reading excrutiatingly dull details about my weight, eating habits, exercise habits (or lack thereof), and so on.
As many of you know, I did pretty well on Weight Watchers during 2004, lost about 20 lb (even allowing for what I gained back over the holidays). Then this year I just bobbed up and down, losing and gaining the same 5 lb over and over. Which is not terrible, really, but not what I would have liked. For context, even at the low end of that 5 lb range, I was still 20 lb heavier than when I left PA in mid-2000.
Now, however, I have gained MORE than that same 5 lb, so I need to get back on track, or try something different, or some combination of the two.
I reckon maybe posting on LJ will keep me honest, since someone may be watching :) Anyway, that's the theory, regular updates on my progress, filtered for those who don't mind this stuff.
So, here's the current situation:
- On my new scale, which does read 2 lb heavier than the old scale, I am weighing in the range of 187.5-189.5. Haven't seen 190, but it's way too close for comfort.
- My exercise level has been way down from the summer: partly because I really was getting tired of hiking 4+ hours every weekend; partly because of serial sinus infections; partly just once the routine gets interrupted, sloth and lethargy slide in. So anyway, I started back with the stationary bike on Friday AM, just doing 20 minutes (not 30), skipped the weekend, did another 20 minutes this AM. Tonight, I made it back to the gym for the first time in a month, did 20 minutes on the elliptical but no weights.
- Haven't managed to get back in the routine of recording my food since getting back from Peru. I know it's really helpful when I do it, but it's so painfully dull after a while.
Other things I'm thinking about:
- Joining a different gym (maybe Curves?) or just another gym, so I can/will go on the weekend -- the one near work is really cheap, and I think the Oakland Y is pretty reasonable, so it isn't totally out of the question that I could belong to both.
- Various resolutions about eating habits, either short- or long-term. I'd like to come up with a couple of good promises to myself, just to carry me through the rest of the holidays...
- Could actually start going to WW meetings, but I already feel like my schedule is too full of obligations.
I am sure there's more I could babble about, but that's more than enough for a start.
