party recap

The party was really nice, albeit fairly low-key as predicted.
L&N had to cancel at the last minute, so I didn't have my usual buffer of time with them to cover the early hours of the party. I surprised that more of my neighbors didn't come, especially my book club buddies. But perhaps my choice of worst-possible-weekend applied to them as well. And I vaguely regret not inviting more people from work, I just couldn't figure out where to draw the line of who to invite and who not (I invited my buddy JD and no one else).
All in all, I wish a few more of you could have made it, it would have been even more fun with you there! But never mind. The quantity of attendees was sufficient to feel like a party, and the quality (of course) outstanding!
At one point late in the evening, eac was recapping the story of a wedding they recently attended, where the main clique was apparently uninterested in interacting with the small number of guests that they didn't already know well -- and it struck me how charming so many of my friends are, and how willing to engage with the whole weird and wonderful assortment that makes up my social circle. Being on the shy side myself, I truly appreciate this: all I do is tidy up a bit, and put out some food & drink, and then my friends come and somehow a great party happens!
Now I am trying to gird myself for yet another bout of vacuuming. And also resist the urge to eat leftover birthday cake for breakfast :)
