weekend report
Feb. 20th, 2006 07:30 pmThe three-day weekend was pretty mellow, uneventful but not unpleasant. I always feel vaguely like I *ought* to do something special and wonderful when I have an extra day off, so I must reassure myself that really it's OK to just have a lazy extended weekend.
Both Sat & Sun involved sleeping late and procrastinating on chores. I did go for a hike on Sat, then that evening I saw Karen to discuss taxes, and had a late dinner with Karen & Kris (who I hadn't really been counting on seeing) over which I dawdled too late for it to be worth trying to get to Blake's to see anaguma's band. In my defense, I really don't see much of K&K during tax season, so it was not unreasonable to make it a priority -- but I do feel bad about missing the show, and hope there will be another one soon so I may redeem myself.
Oh, and watching the Olympics. I so rarely watch television at all, it truly is hypnotic; and the Olympics in particular are such an interesting pop-cultural experience. I started on Friday evening, again yesterday evening, and am figuring on more of the same tonight, although hopefully I will resist staying up until midnight as I have the past three nights in a row.
In any case, today I had vague ambitions of going for another hike, but hadn't really planned where to go -- and when I got up, realized that I really truly couldn't ignore the vacuuming or the bills or the laundry or getting the car washed or the email from the prospective mortgage broker listing the 9000 pieces of paper I need to produce in order to apply to be pre-approved...
About 1:00 in the afternoon, I had actually finished quite a bit of that, and could still have fit in a hike somewhere local -- but then got an email from my new realtor (recommended by Karen) with a batch of 16 MLS listings for me to check out and let him know if there were any I'd like to see... So then I spent 3 hours looking at MLS listings (plus mapping the locations & proximity to BART & so on) and writing a long, long email back to the realtor explaining which neighborhoods appeal to me, plus all of my quirky preferences like wood floors rather than wall-to-wall and please NO MIRRORED CLOSET DOORS!
In any case, at 4:00 when I came up for air, instead of using the last of the daylight to go for a walk, I went to the big car wash in Berkeley and had a mob of cheery Hispanic people swarm over my car and make it very shiny, and then stopped and bought laundry detergent, and came home and did the weekly food prep stuff while starting the laundry. It's now 20 past 7 and I'm strangely tired, although I bet I won't be sleepy when it's bedtime. Hey ho.
Seems like at least a couple of people I know did not have a very nice weekend, but I hope all the rest of you did :)
