I went out and ran some errands, came back to an email from my realtor saying: the seller won't answer us until after their scheduled open house tomorrow. Now, we had specifically required an answer by noon, so technically the offer will be expired, but apparently that doesn't mean they absolutely can't or won't accept it, it just means I can change my mind.

However, it seems clear that they think it's likely that they will get a better offer, and I don't intend to compete -- the place is already at the top end of what I can comfortably afford, plus I'd want to do some renovation, so it's just not worth it to me.

Now I need to balance being pessimistic with still waiting to see if it comes through, yet needing to give some of my attention to other options.

Overall: bah.

Meanwhile, I did get to the bank, wandered into a few clothing stores which had nothing remotely plausible to wear to a formal wedding, and went to Trader Joe's, so at least 2 more chores are checked off the list. As predicted, the fleeting mood in which I felt like diving into sorting and organizing has fleeted right off. Instead, I might go for a walk around Lake Merritt and then end up at the Parkway.

Update: another email from my realtor, he says the chances are 50-50. I think I should definitely go to a movie...

Oh -- that's sort of a bummer. And too bad TJ's doesn't have formal wedding attire. Also too bad they don't carry the wasabe peanuts anymore. Sigh.

Maybe the house will work out. But if it doesn't, think of how quickly you found this one (after getting to the point of looking, I mean) -- so something else good will present itself shortly.
