reading, before I forget

jaeclecticMade my way through the rest of the Lemony Snicket books, up to 12 (I had previously read 1- 10, recently acquired 11 and 12, the final volume 13 is expected out later this year). This was good: I had let them sit long enough, and got in the right mood, so I really enjoyed them.
I may be forgetting something, but I think I turned next to my book club book, The Mermaid Chair. A pleasant enough read, not very deep. A couple of my fellow book-clubbers had also read her previous book, The Secret Life of Bees, and commented that it was very much the same (same plot, same themes).
Then switched back into children's fantasy book mode and read Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising (just the one, not the whole series which I now must acquire). Kris lent this to me back in December when we went to the Christmas Revels, after informing me that Susan Cooper is the author of that solstice poem.
Somewhere in all this, I was stranded in Berkeley without a book and therefore acquired George Lakoff's Don't think of an elephant!, which is kind of the cliff notes for Moral Politics (which is deeper in the sea of Lakoff than even I have ventured, I got stranded somewhere barely into Philosophy in the Flesh). But this one is small and light, and I suggested it to my book club, since half the time we talk about politics anyway :) Therefore I'll be finishing it sometime between now and 2 May.
So that's on the back burner, and I'm once again deep into the brain candy: just re-read Elizabeth Moon's Trading in Danger, having just obtained (and now started into) Marque and Reprisal. Mmmm, space opera, yum.
p.s. I am not sure if I really started this because I was intending to imitate jgcr, but I feel like I'm imitating jgcr. Sincere flattery and all that.
p.p.s. Maybe someday LJ will add in easy support for ancillary lists like "what I'm reading today", which isn't really an unusual thing for a blog to include. Maybe they already do, but you have to dig to find it...
