then again...

It could be all in my mind. The computer foo, that is.
Because I did eventually figure out that one of the wall sockets at the previous Holiday Inn was not functional (I realized that when I plugged in something simple, i.e. the coffee pot, and it didn't work). And then I figured out that the little light that seemed to come on when power is connected doesn't always stay on, at least not the particular little light I was looking at. Very confusing. Apparently the only way to see whether the laptop thinks power is connected is to go to the power settings in Control Panel (but of course you can't do that when your computer won't boot up).
In short, there may be nothing at all wrong with the power adapter / socket, I may have just been confused. *sigh*
Meanwhile, back at the internet connectivity ranch, I just happened to turn on my computer in the hotel room and was advised that a wireless network was available -- apparently a feature that the hotel sees no reason at all to advertise -- instead they offer hour-by-hour internet access in their "business center", during standard business hours of course -- or perhaps it has nothing to do with them and just happens to be in the neighborhood. Anyway, I paid 25$ (Canadian) and have wireless internet in my hotel room for the rest of the week. Yay!
Meanwhile, CHI has continued fun. Jared Spool was as entertaining as expected. Spent some time chatting with Scott (my fellow red-haired bisexual interaction designer) at the reception this evening, in between the Cirque du Soleil mini-shows (we both thought the dark-haired acrobat was hot). Briefly saw my old boss from PSFT, and Nicholas (PhD from SIMS, now at PARC), and Rashmi...
And tomorrow, I can leave my computer in the hotel room, secure in the knowledge that I can always check my email later...

Re: I'm glad I entertained
Date: 2006-04-29 08:21 pm (UTC)I wasn't sure if I should do the intro, since I was already familiar with the basic concept of scent, but I actually got a lot out of it.
And I can certainly see that it must have been an exhausting day, so thanks for pushing through it!
Cheers,
Jean-Anne
