Never did manage to hook up with Peter (although he may yet call back) but Aviva and I walked and walked and walked all over. Started in Old Montreal, saw a cathedral (splendid) and the archeology museum (pleasant and informative but not scintillating) then wandered rather randomly over to the McGill campus and I'm not sure where. It was fun hanging out with her, we had met several times but never really talked so much before.
Tried to catch the Metro on the way back but couldn't figure out where to buy a ticket and gave up and walked another mile instead.
Now it is just after 7PM, I am very footsore, still coughing, and mildly hungry. If I don't hear from Peter in the next few minutes, I'll probably either get a sandwich in the hotel bar again, or actually get room service (the better to not have to put on shoes).
Tomorrow I'll need to get up fairly early and head out to the airport (traveling back to Pittsburgh). It should be a quiet couple of days. My entire agenda: Saturday get to Pittsburgh, Sunday visit my Dad, Monday travel back home. And the visit with Dad and his wife won't even be a full day, as they pleaded a combination of busyness and lack of stamina. The latter is a fairly compelling argument from people in their 80's, but still... It does make me rather sad and bitter; I wish I had a parent with a normal level of enthusiasm. C'est la guerre.
