books books books, yum
May. 8th, 2006 07:54 pmI'm not keeping up with this very well, not sure at all I actually remember everything, but here goes:
For the book club, I did finish Lakoff's Don't think of an elephant.
Meanwhile, having enjoyed some recent Elizabeth Moon, I decided to go back and re-read The Deed of Paksenarrion, which was my main airplane reading for the trip east.
Then veered off into a Kage Baker novel, The Life of The World to Come (tip of the hat to podle, from whom I learned of Kage Baker -- yum, must get me some more of that) plus got part-way through some short stories by Ursula LeGuin, Changing Planes (still working on that, in small bites).
At some point along the way, as I was travelling, I had 20 minutes to kill and went into a Barnes & Noble where they happened to have a one-volume compilation of Elizabeth Moon's prequels to the Paksenarrion trilogy, to which I thought oh why not, airplane reading for the trip back -- so that's what I just finished. For the record, not her finest work, but modestly entertaining. Presumably she wrote this stuff quite a while ago, and at least she's getting better as she goes along, what more can one ask?
Not actually sure what to start on next. The book club will be doing Catch 22, but I may wait until my head clears to start it. At the moment, I am craving something very light and frothy. Or should I say, more of the same.
