I forgot to mention last time that I had started The Virgin Suicides, and did not find it charming enough to overcome being appalled by the concept. Maybe I will go back to it sometime now that I am suitably warned. Or not.
My yearning for froth was satisfied by a couple of Terry Pratchett novels (Equal Rites and Guards, Guards! to be specific). If I had more on hand, I'd probably be reading another one now.
Having run out of Pratchett, I switched to I'm Not the New Me, a memoir by the woman who does the site poundy.com (which Moryma recommended to me way back in the day and I didn't even know was still up until I checked just now...)
Somewhere in all this, I did start Catch 22. Which is of course A Great American Novel and all, but I'm not finding it easy to get rolling. It's not exactly heavy, but it's dense, if that makes any sense at all. A small dose leaves me sated. Interestingly, I was apparently remembering correctly that I was in high school when I read it before, because the book is stamped with the school name and address. Meaning: I stole Catch 22 from my school! oh my, what a rotten kid I was.
I started to start The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, but decided I was never going to finish Catch 22 by the first Tuesday in June if I continued to read something else at the same time. So that's on hold.
