twitching

I know I have no real reason to worry, but I just figured out that:
a) Legally, to give 30 days notice, I need to send my current landlord written notice immediately, today (and hope that the mail isn't delayed)
yet
b) the new place's property management company won't want to sign a lease until at least Monday, partly because they want to contact my current landlord as a reference.

So the worst case I suppose is that if it falls through, I will either:
a) apologize, beg my landlord's forgiveness (ick)
or
b) scramble to find another place

Small chance, I know. Yet I am twitching.

If you are really worried about it, you could always have the letter couriered.

Well, as far as the potential for the letter to get lost in the mail, I could just sent two copies -- that would be cheaper ;)

The part that has my stomach in a knot is: what if he decides to say something bad about me. Which rationally, I don't think he will -- both because I don't deserve it, and because I think he is smart enough to want to avoid dispute. But you know, the guy is a jerk. So how can I be sure?

Other places that I have moved into have not wanted to talk to my current landlord prior to "approving" me, they tended to rely more on a credit check. So this process just feels kind of intrusive... and the timing factor just makes it more nerve-wracking.
