I have to be careful what movies I watch, sensitive creature that I am. Last night, I watched the movie Quills, which not surprisingly was a bit macabre -- but all the descriptions I'd read focused on how surprisingly funny it was, rather than the decidedly grim ending. In any case, I woke up at 4:30 AM (out of some dream that was unpleasant but ordinary) and my brain started flashing on ugly bits from the movie, and it took me most of an hour to drop back off again.

I meant to go to the gym today, but didn't. I kept getting sucked back into software loading and eventually it seemed too late.

One of the things I did instead: went through all of my cassette tapes, which I am planning to discard, since I haven't used any of them for at least the 2+ years that I've been living here. I decided to at least write down what they all were, and make a note of anything I might want to make a point of acquiring on CD. The results: out of the 3 photo boxes full, an even dozen tapes that I hesitate to discard -- mostly just pop albums I'd like to be sure I get on CD (easily enough done), one random classical album that apparently was never issued on CD (c'est la guerre), 3 tapes of miscellaneous non-musical events (an astrological reading circa 1986, a tape my sister made of her kids watching a movie circa 1994, and a tape my sister made of an interview with Richard Thompson on NPR, probably also circa 1994).

And the kicker: a tape of music by a very sweet young man named Brian, an American who I worked with in England, went to Stonehenge with, slept with once, and who quite unexpectedly died a few years later of lung cancer. And whom I hadn't thought about for quite a while.

Other than that: lunch with eac was nice, despite feeling like I didn't have much good to say about myself and was therefore possibly rather dreary company.

Also, did not manage to hire movers, as I waited for a call back from Delancey St that didn't come.

Although I did sort out 7 grocery bags full of clothes to go to Goodwill (or equivalent). Including two full bags of shoes. Mostly: festive shoes that I wore often a decade ago, and which I can no longer wear without pain. But have been hauling around from place to place, unable to part with. Now they go!

Reading back through this, it is really exceptionally incoherent. But as that seems to be my mood, I guess I'll let it stand.
