high on remodelling?
Aug. 31st, 2006 08:36 pmDespite some continued uncertainty about whether it will really all get done in time, I have reached the stage of being completely bubbly about my new home.
In particular, the kitchen floor. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am with my new kitchen floor -- not that it's done yet, there's just enough done that I can tell that it actually is going to look like the picture in my head. Yay, yay, yay!
For anyone who has a random desire to know what my brain is filled with lately, here is a list of the moving parts:
So there you are. For the most part, it is all coming together amazingly well.
And oh yes, about Alexis: not really my type, but he has the loveliest voice. And he laughs at my jokes. And doesn't tell me I'm crazy even when I can suspect he's thinking it (e.g., when I started explaining about the tile pattern). Plus being handy and all. So what the heck, a little crush on the handyman is not such a bad thing.

For anyone who has a random desire to know what my brain is filled with lately, here is a list of the moving parts:
- removal of offending kitchen cabinet:
done (except for the ripple effect) - miscellaneous repairs and whims, e.g. fixing the outside light, removing ceiling texture that was on only half of the kitchen ceiling, planing the door so it doesn't stick, moving a phone jack to the hallway:
mostly done, but I'll keep thinking of more - replacement of shoddy tile in bathrooms:
the tear-out work is done (and I haven't smelled any mildew since, yay!). Now waiting on the City of Oakland to inspect before the backing goes up, after which there will be another inspection. Since the first inspection took 3 days to schedule when the contractor only expected it to take 1, there is serious risk that I will be moving in with no working shower. C'est la guerre. - kitchen tile, AKA the ripple effect from removing the offending cabinet despite realizing that the vinyl flooring did not extend under it:
most of the floor tile is laid out, the old tile has been removed from the wall, and Alexis (my handyman, whom I am quite charmed by) plans to finish it all by Saturday. - painting to eliminate green walls in living room and purple wall in bedroom:
scheduled for next Tues and Wedn (painting of purple bathroom and kitchen ceiling to be scheduled when other work in the respective rooms is complete) - hard wood floors to replace beige wall-to-wall:
wood was delivered last week, installation is slated to start next Thursday (through the following Sunday), All other work needs to cease for this interval.
Potential glitch: I've also got a guy from the flooring company coming to do a moisture check on Tuesday because I got worried when the HOA person told me that I shouldn't go into the storage area below my unit because it's moldy. This has the potential to seriously screw up my plans, but I am 99% certain that I am worrying too much, I just figure it's better to be safe than sorry. - movers are scheduled for Thursday 14 Sep. That leaves Mon-Tues-Wedn after the floors are done (assuming the floors get done on time) for things that aren't finished to become so -- or not, and get finished after move-in.
