Well, it's Monday AM, and I gave myself the day off, and I'm looking around trying to decide what to tackle. I'm coughing, and my back hurts, but I really need to make this day worthwhile. I just need to stop thinking about furniture I wish I could find, and try to get unpacked and quasi-organized with what I have. And if I spend even 6 hours today actually focused on that, it should make a huge difference...

So, a short list of goals for the next few hours:
- one more coat of Kilz primer under the bathroom counter
- try swapping the locations of the two kitchen cabinets (one of them is in the dining room)
- put up CD shelves
- try putting felt pads on the folding chairs for the DR, or if that doesn't work, find space in a closet to hide them
- unpack books for office
- inventory remaining packed boxes and decide which to tackle, find space in a closet to hide the rest
- decide whether to try to store the TV box, otherwise discard
- possibly pick up plants from L&N? (optional reward for good behavior?)
- hang a few pictures?

There is still shopping to do (e.g. return bath mat to BBB), but since every shopping expedition seems to be an infinite time suck, I figure later in the week will do for that.

And oh yes, I need to call the painter about paying him, test the heater again and call the heating person if it doesn't work, call the computer help person to see about getting my PC to acknowledge the existance of wireless networks, etc etc etc.

Well, let me get myself started and see how this goes.

Update, 10:15 AM:
- one more coat of Kilz primer under the bathroom counter - done
- try swapping the locations of the two kitchen cabinets (one of them is in the dining room) - done, with the emphasis on "try": moved around several pieces of furniture several ways, didn't find any arrangement more satisfactory than where it all started, except that I am trying the corner shelf not in the corner (which will probably not last, but it was one of those items I wasn't really sure about keeping anyway, so it may just have to go). Broke one glass in the process of too-hastily moving things from point A to B and back again. *sigh*

I suppose that's not bad for an hour and a quarter. Perhaps a short break now to drink some coffee, maybe eat something, perhaps shower and comb my hair...

Update, 12:15 PM:

- put up CD shelves - sort of done, ish: got them in place, then realized I had done it wrong (one of them had extra felt pads and was supposed to be on the bottom of the stack), which is not a tragedy because I ought to put anchors in the wall anyway. But I can wait a bit to re-do this, and in the meantime have unpacked two boxes of CDs, which will have to move when I re-do the shelves, but never mind... having the shelves up actually does a fair bit to reduce the sense of chaos in the living room.
- hang a few pictures?: exactly one picture hung, it's a start.

Bonus chores not on original list:
- replaced the (mildly dangerous looking) nails in the bedroom closet with actual hooks that I might want to use for clothing
- poured the leftover uuglay purple paint into a bag of kitty litter for disposal

Now snacking on some leftover Ethiopian lamb and girding myself to attack... something.

Update, 2:10 PM:

Yes I am going to keep updating this silly damn post all day long.

- try putting felt pads on the folding chairs for the DR, or if that doesn't work, find space in a closet to hide them: had enough felt pads left for two chairs, shoved the other two in the office closet. Also moved the table closer to the wall, at least for the moment, to provide a little more breathing room in the sadly still cluttered space.

And: decided to try switching the doors on the dish cabinet, so that the hinges are on the right and they open from the left. I vaguely recalled having tried this once before, and it didn't work right, and sure enough there is a 1/4 to 1/2-inch gap above the door which wasn't there when the doors were hung the other way -- so although they look symmetrical, they aren't quite. But I don't care -- in the current layout, it works *so* much better this way, I am quite pleased. (This is, by the way, one of those tasks that you really shouldn't try by yourself, because it needs more than two hands. But I managed it and haven't broken anything else, yet.)

Forgot to mention earlier, I did try the heat and it worked, therefore one less phone call needed.

Also: left a message for the painter, politely inquiring what is the total that I owe him, and does he want to be paid in cash? I am sure he is going to call back and bitch at me. Annoying fucking bastard.

Currently waiting for a call back from K&K's friend Howard, whom I hope may be able to help me get my wireless working, and take another stab at getting data off of my dead external hard disk. I am beginning to think I may have given him my phone number incorrectly, since he said he was just going to switch phones and call me right back...

Onward.

Update, 4:10 PM:
I didn't plan to do the updates at 2-hour increments, it just happened. And I will start a new post soon, I am sick of this one. And sick of the day, for that matter.

I have unpacked some books, some office stuff, the stemware (a modest half-box full is all I own), and I definitely have made a dent. Somehow this does not make me thrilled and happy, although I wish it would.

The felt pad are already coming off the folding chair. I think this means new chairs as well as a smaller table are in order. *sigh* I wish I knew where to go so that furniture shopping could be fun, instead of torment (that's almost what I want, but won't fit; that's almost what I want, but butt-ugly; rinse repeat).

Howard is coming over later to look at my PC. I still haven't combed my hair, must do that soon.

My sense of time is all out of whack, I have been telling people I moved 3 weeks ago but in fact it's less than two. I mean, really just one plus a weekend. Nevertheless, I feel overwhelmed by disorder.

I want to cry, but I suppose I'll go comb my hair and unpack some bathroom stuff instead.
