thanksgiving and all that jazz

jaeclecticWhile peeling root veggies this AM, I realized that while it might be an excellent exercise to spend a day meditating solely on gratitude, today is not that day. Not that I am feeling particularly *ungrateful*, quite the opposite. My long-weekend plans include seeing several of my favorite people in the universe, which is enough to make me thankful in and of itself.
And then there are roasted parsnips. Mmmm. Life is good, indeed.
Even so, I'm intermittently thinking about connections lost or waning, as well as those unexpectedly kept; I'm hearing random and probably maudlin love songs on the radio and wistfully tearing up.
I seem to be in the holiday spirit early this year -- not the one you're supposed to feel, the one I always really do feel -- a heady and unreasonable mix of enjoyment and disappointment, gratitude and envy, pure joy and stabbing self-pity, small pleasures and impossibly high expectations, reveling in the moment and pondering the past and trying to stare bravely into the future...
*shakes self*
But today is a fine day, and only getting better. May it be so for you all, as well.
