unwell kitty

I took Lena to the vet today because I thought she was limping badly -- I saw her apparently try to put weight on one foreleg and then lose her balance, a couple of times. Turns out, in fact, the leg was not the issue. She was just losing her balance, period. Listing like a drunken sailor, as a matter of fact.
After speculating about various frightening possibilities, the vet ran some tests and concluded that she has an ear infection. In both ears. The mother of all ear infections, perchance.
Plus, she is a little dehydrated, which seems insane since she is the cat obsessed with drinking water from multiple and increasingly odd locations (most recently: the shower door rail and shower floor. She pesters me in the AM, waiting for me to take my shower so she can have a drink. Not like there aren't perfectly nice bowls of water sitting out for her!) They gave her a shot of water under the skin, which is still leaking out of her back. Poor dear, such indignities.
Anyway. I have to dose her with antibiotics twice a day, somehow make sure she is eating and drinking, and take her back for follow-up on Friday. The monitoring eating part is tough because they are self-feeding, and I am not home all day, or if I am home I'm busy working, so how the heck do I know which one ate how much? But Lena did her best to reassure me by going directly to the food bowl when we got home from the vet.
At the moment, she is sitting at my feet purring (with her sister stalking around in the background obviously peeved that someone other than herself is the center of attention).
I should be gathering myself up to go to the gym, but I am seriously tempted to stay home and be a lap for the cats instead.
