Last year, I made a dedicated effort to post every book I read. One year of that was enough, now I just figure I'll mention what's memorable enough to be in my mind when I'm sitting here.

Around the turn of the year, I had a binge of re-reading Marge Piercy novels, which ended only when I realized that I was starting to confuse the characters from different books (long before I ran out). She has a trope of "women who don't think of themselves as attractive unexpectedly finding love" which I find very wish-fullfilling.

Not long after that, I re-read the first 6 Harry Potter books, on the occasion of having pre-ordered the seventh, and also having finally gotten my own copy of the sixth. It was interesting going back to the books after a couple of viewings of the movies -- I remembered most of the extra plot lines, but had somehow forgotten some of Rowling's tone, which the movies do not preserve anything approaching perfectly.

In between times, my book club read Blood Done Sign My Name (a very interesting read, which I had suggested to the book club on my colleague K's recommendation), followed by Beloved (also extremely interesting albeit rather painful). Now we're starting The Botany of Desire (also my recommendation), something that's been on my wish list forever, and of which I was reminded by reading the article that jgcr posted.

Also, randomly: Tuck Everlasting. Quite a bittersweet little tale; it unsettled me a bit, rather to my surprise.

OK, I must run off now, time to go see the One Man Star Wars Trilogy. Perhaps later I will post something about life in general :)
