walking...

Started the day kind of out of sorts, tried to get going on my last bit of work for Sun but the database server was down, then spent a couple of hours fiddling with stuff around the apartment and contemplating what I could / should spend money on, given that the alloted budget is pretty much gone. Then checked my Sun email, determined that the server was back up and finished step 1 of the process and decided that was enough for one day -- all of two hours of paid work.

At that point, it was mid-afternoon and I decided to walk to the nearest Peet's and buy some coffee, that being a mile and a half away along Lakeshore Ave. Noting that there was an Albertson's right next to the Peet's, I also bought laundry detergent and garbage bags, and then despite having a rather heavy backpack, decided to try a different route home. Probably ended up walking 5 or 6 miles, rather than the 3 that would have resulted from just retracing my steps. But it was fun (despite an achey knee), I got to see a bit of the high-rent district over in the "Grand Lake" area, checked out part of the little business district on 18th St., and figured out the direct route to get to the Parkway Theatre from here.

Yeah, I think this place will be OK. Let's just hope I find work nearby.

Update: spent the rest of the evening kind of gimpy, eventually put ice on a swollen ankle. I still think the long walk was a splendid idea, combining it with carrying a pack full of groceries, maybe not so smart...
