As these things go, it was a reasonably pleasant trip. Uneventful anyway. And I had an aisle seat, which I fear will not be the case on the way home. Worst mishap was spending several minutes waiting for my suitcase at the wrong carousel, before catching a glimpse of it disappearing back into the wall at the next carousel over.

I finished Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom just before takeoff, and entertained myself for the rest of the trip with the first 178 pages of Jessica Mitford's Hons and Rebels (AKA Daughters and Rebels). I had previously read her other autobiography (A Fine Old Conflict) which covers a swath of her later life, so this has been on my list for a while -- now I'm going to want to go back and re-read the other sometime soon.

Also, thankfully, remembered at the very last minute that I should buy lunch at the airport because there would not be free food on the plane, and the selection of food for sale would be minimal and even more vastly overpriced than airport food.

So anyway. Now I'm in downtown Miami. The hotel seems OK, nothing special. It does have some kind of "fitness center" which I need to check out, as I plan to at least try to exercise every AM, as some partial counterbalance for likely eating more than I ought (I shouldn't even let myself think that, I should be super positive about my good intentions, but in truth... I've been to this kind of event before, and I kind of know how it goes).

I will need to get up silly early in order to exercise, then find my way to the conference venue, in time to register and get to the workshop which cruelly starts at 8:30AM.

All in all, it's kind of a good thing that air travel makes me tired -- a minor benefit of traveling east is that I feel about as tired as I ought to be at the time it is here (9:40) instead of the time my body ought to think it is (6:40). I have also just popped a melatonin tablet, just for luck.
