so much for that theory
Apr. 11th, 2008 12:02 pmI can't seem to get the VPN to be functional over the hotel internet access -- it connects OK, but I can't get any internal web sites (much less the application I'm supposed to be working on) to load. So I guess I won't be doing any work-work (except keeping up with email) after all.
(Unnecessary completeness: At certain phases of my work, I could do a lot of stuff offline. But right now my current project is in a phase where I am supposed to be checking the implementation, and there just isn't much I can do without access to a box that's running the stuff.)
And now, as a special bonus, here is some of the miscellany that I meant to post earlier and was forgetting:
Despite expecting it, it is still a shock to experience the combination of muggy heat outside and excessive air conditioning inside. Also, I am way out of practice with planning clothes for this combination. Interestingly, I immediately remembered various things that I should have packed (or at least considered packing) at the moment when I first stepped outside of the airport. Logically, I suppose, the tactile sensation of humid heat is directly connected to the memory of what kind of clothes I might want to wear in such weather. But for remembering what to pack, that's not very helpful!
The desk at the hotel contains a laminated card (right between the bible and the book or mormon) with the heading: PIZZA ALERT. The Marriott sincerely and forcefully warns their guests not to order pizza from the flyers slipped under the room door. Please use a nationally recognized chain instead. *snort* OK, I know I'm easily amused, but that is funny, right?
