LJ introspection
Oct. 22nd, 2003 08:42 pmSo, being new here and all, I am still figuring out both how I want to use this, and how other people use this, and what the rules of the road are.
Early today I was thinking about the whole concept of the Friends pages, and what that may mean in terms of who ends up seeing my posts. Up to this point, I haven't posted anything too intensely private, so that's not really an issue, but I wonder about whether I should worry that my mundane posts will bore people. I mean, if somebody goes to my page, they get what they deserve. And I suppose logically the same applies if they go to one of my friends' Friends pages. But somehow it seems different.
And then, I wonder, how often do people actually go to other people's Friends pages, once they get over being a lost & confused newbie like myself? I mean, the pages are public, obviously that's intentional, but sometimes I feel vaguely like I am being a peeping tom when I go read Eva's Friends page -- but then that's how I found Wanda here, so it must be justified!
Speaking of Eva (the center of my LJ-universe), I endeavor to slavishly imitate her habits about things like how long to make a post before using lj-cut. At least, to the extent that I notice or can figure out what she's doing. But of course, I haven't actually discussed this with her or anyone else, so maybe it is all in my mind. Seems likely, doesn't it?
And is there, by the way, any rule at all about using people's names vs. LJ logins vs. cryptic pseudonyms comprehensible only to the parties in question?
Oh, and my one gripe thus far: One mood at a time is far too limiting, I need two or three...
