miscellany
Sep. 29th, 2009 04:04 pmI am not unhappy today, just a little tired and possibly getting a cold and more than averagely unmotivated. And I don't have any pressing deadlines to make me panic, so instead I am working away in a minimally attentive and desultory manner -- a little work, a little web-browsing; a little work, a little cat-petting; a little work, a little updating of the budget spreadsheet; a little work, a little LJ...
NB: when I am averagely or more than averagely motivated, I rarely post about it, because I'm too busy working.
Anyway, things are OK.
Tonight I have the second of two consecutive HOA meetings. The meeting yesterday was the regular quarterly meeting, which includes the person from the management company, and whichever owners choose to show up (as usual, a very small number). The meeting started with one disgruntled owner who was perturbed that it took 6 months to sort out the leaks in the unit above his; and ended with another disgruntled owner who doesn't believe that the HOA is justified in charging him for damage caused by his tenant, and has been evading mediation for a year, and just dropped by the meeting to try and argue about it. In between, 90 minutes of routine and tedious.
The meeting tonight is to discuss whether we should look for a new management company, or at least ask for a more experienced person to handle our account. I have pretty mixed feelings about this:
- The management company hasn't been great about a lot of things, but I don't have high confidence that we'll do any better (with our current budget).
- Looking for a new management company is not a trivial task.
- If we complain, they could just decide to drop us, and then we'd really be screwed.
I am not at all pleased that these meetings ended up being two nights in a row. This stuff just sucks the life out of me.
I'm going to try to work at home again tomorrow. Just because.
I could blather more, but I'll stop here...
