I heard a tornado warning for Contra Costa county on the radio while driving to Berkeley. The sun was shining, albeit with dark clouds, and a rainbow.

I had to look up the exact location when I got home (Brentwood heading towards Discovery Bay) which turns out to be 40-some miles inland.

Still. Tornados! In northern CA! Wowza.

Also, I don't think I've ever before heard an actual use (as opposed to a test) of the emergency broadcast system.

In addition to announcing the location of the funnel cloud, they gave very detailed instructions about what to do. Synopsis: if indoors, go cower in the basement. If in your car, try to get indoors and find a basement to cower in. Failing that, consider cowering in the bottom of a ditch. (Seriously.) Although they didn't actually use the word "cower", that's just my interpretation :)

I know this is serious business if you happen to actually be where it's happening. Nevertheless, I was entertained.
