zoo was awesome
Mar. 25th, 2010 06:45 pmGood news: I had a great day at the San Diego zoo. Bad news: My ankle hurt when I got up this morning, walking around on it all day did not help, and now my back hurts too.
I impulse-bought the most expensive day package, the "backstage tour" -- hey, it's a non-profit and my dollars go to saving the California Condor, etc, right? So anyway... in addition to the sundry delights of the zoo qua zoo, I also got the somewhat cheesy but indisputably delightful experiences of petting a zebra, and an emu, and best of all feeding a rhinoceros -- they have a verging-on-prehensile upper lip and can grab a carrot off of your palm very tidily.
There were also many monkeys. Also large cats, although for the most part they did not seem very happy. And pandas, and koalas, and several kinds of warthogs, and so on and so forth.
There will be photographic evidence of all this, once I'm home.
My friendly acquaintance with whom I was planning to have dinner turned out to have to work late. Which is fine, really, since I am pretty happy sitting still with my ankle propped up on some ice. We might still go out for a drink or coffee or some such -- she's going to call later.
Wouldn't mind having more time here, but also looking forward to getting home. (Predictable on both counts.)
Oh, and in other good news, the catsitter actually sent me an email, no news, just saying the cats are fine. Gloriosky zero! So I have actually been able to relax and stop imagining various scenarios in which my cats were starving and wondering why I'd abandoned them. Yes, that is the way my brain works, how else?
